The inaugural Barwon Cleaning Supplies Portarlington Legends Pro-Am will be held on Monday, 28 February.
The field will contain several high-profile legends of Australian golf, with players such as Peter Senior, Andre Stolz, Mike Harwood, David McKenzie and Peter Lonard expected to take part.
Barwon Cleaning Supplies managing director Wayne Dixon was thrilled to continue his generous support of the club’s tournaments.
“Some of these guys we’ll have down to Portarlington were – and still are – household names, so I’m sure they’ll generate a lot of interest for everyone to come and watch,” Dixon said.
“And for those lucky enough to get to play, it should be a great day to see how guys who have, shall we say, a little more experience, tackle our course.”
PGA of Australia Legends Tour co-ordinator Andy Rogers welcomed the Portarlington event, the first on the tour’s 2022 calendar.
“We’re really looking forward to coming to Portarlington for the first time,” Rogers said.
“We know the club has hosted other successful pro-ams in the past and it’s a course our members I’m certain will enjoy.
“They certainly know how to play great golf and they’re always up to entertain at the same time, so we encourage all on the Bellarine Peninsula to get involved with what I’m sure will be a great day.”
Portarlington Golf Club chief executive Michael Phillips said he hoped the tournament would be the first of many to come.
“We’re certain so many of the legends who come will be names really familiar to our members and guests, so it will be a great thrill to see them up close and personal,” he said.
“If we can make the event a success, I’m sure we’ll be able to grow it in years to come, too.”
Phillips urged all members and potential event partners to get behind the tournament.
“These things really succeed when the full community rallies around them, so if you or your business wants a chance to partner with the club to host these legends, please reach out to the club as soon as you can.”
